The Beverly Theater Hosts Las Vegas Premiere of ‘Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter’ on Dec. 3

After years of crippling legal battles and financial loss, Powter disappeared into near-total obscurity, eventually living quietly and below the poverty line in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas’ premier independent film house The Beverly Theater in Downton Las Vegas will host the Las Vegas premiere of “Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter,” the new feature documentary from director Zeberiah Newman, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6:45 p.m.

Presented by John Redmann and The Beverly Theater, the screening will be followed by an in-person Q+A with Powter, marking a rare public appearance from the ’90s wellness icon.

The film traces Powter’s rise to fame powered by her signature platinum buzzcut, bestselling books, hit talk show and unforgettable “Stop the Insanity!” mantra – along with her dramatic and unexpected retreat from the public eye.

After years of crippling legal battles and financial loss, Powter disappeared into near-total obscurity, eventually living quietly and below the poverty line in Las Vegas, where filmmaker Newman found her.

Mixing archival footage, candid interviews and a raw present-day portrait of Powter’s life, the film explores not only her meteoric ascent and fall, but also the question of whether her message still resonates today.

Along with director Newman, the film was produced by Leah Turner and Michiel Thomas and executive produced by Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, John Redmann, Celia Aniskovich and Chad Hines.

“Susan Powter’s journey of personal, professional and spiritual reclamation is one I am proud to be a small part of,” Curtis said.

Redmann, a longtime advocate for independent storytelling, added: “There is no better place than The Beverly Theater to bring Susan’s story back into the light. It’s her hometown, it’s the most passionate indie film venue in the city, and it’s exactly the kind of stage that honors bold voices and second chapters.

“Hosting this premiere here feels right in every way.” Tickets for the premiere and Q+A are $15 ($9 for B+ members) and are available at TheBeverlyTheater.com.
