“One of the most exciting aspects of bringing … Contramar … to (FBLV) is the opportunity to offer a taste of Mexico: fresh, vibrant, spicy and full of character.”
Chef Gabriela Cámara, founder of Mexico City’s Contramar, will debut Cantina Contramar at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Saturday, March 28. Cantina Contramar joins three of Mexico’s top creative voices: Cámara, Frida Escobedo, who designed the space, and Casa Dragones Maestra Tequilera Bertha González Nieves.
With the opening of Cantina Contramar, FBLV further elevates the Strip’s culinary landscape with a destination that mixes Mexican cuisine, beverage and design. The collaboration introduces Cámara’s hospitality to Las Vegas, marking the next extension of the 27-year Contramar brand and Escobedo’s first U.S. restaurant.

“As longtime admirers of Contramar, a Mexico City institution, we are proud to serve as the home of its next chapter,” said Fontainebleau Development President and Partner Brett Mufson. “Working with Gabriela, Frida and Bertha allows us to bring a truly distinctive concept to life.”
Cantina Contramar will weave in simple seafood dining with twists on Mexican cantina classics. “One of the most exciting aspects of bringing an interpretation of Contramar’s spirit and cuisine to Fontainebleau Las Vegas is the opportunity to offer a taste of Mexico: fresh, vibrant, spicy and full of character,” said Cámara.

FBLV and Cámara have partnered with Frida Escobedo Studio, whose portfolio includes the new Modern and Contemporary Art Wing for The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha, Qatar; and the renovation of the Centre Pompidou.
Escobedo’s design of the restaurant is inspired by Mexican cantinas where a bright, expansive space fosters conviviality. Cantina Contramar is designed to embody a place where everyone is invited – with an open kitchen, a comal station and a bar.

“In a city characterized by its ability to contain worlds within worlds, Cantina Contramar presents a gateway to Mexican culture, its design heritage and world-famous hospitality. And no one does hospitality like Chef Gabriela and her team at Contramar,” said Escobedo.
Cantina Contramar reflects the authenticity, warmth and celebratory nature of Mexican hospitality. Additional details, including reservation information and full menu, will be unveiled in the coming weeks. More: FontainebleauLasVegas.com
