GlowFest Announces Family-Friendly Lunar New Year Program Lineup

A standout moment Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m.: Lunar New Year performance by the Art Center for Autistic Children & Youth led by Lisa Chen.

GlowFest is a large-scale lantern festival with more than 200 hand-sculpted lanterns inspired by ancient legends and cultural storytelling and offering visitors an immersive look at the vibrant art and traditions associated with the Spring Festival celebrated across many Asian countries.

Rooted in themes of light, renewal and hope, GlowFest invites guests to welcome harmony and prosperity. Each installation is handcrafted by more than 100 artisans and include more than 25,000 pounds of steel wire and fabric. The lanterns reflect transformation across five realms: reality, nature, ocean, celestial and exotic.

Cultural performances are central to Lunar New Year celebrations, believed to ward off spirits, invite fortune and strengthen bonds, values at the heart of GlowFest. From Feb. 17-21 at 6 and 8 p.m., there will be Chinese cultural performances in the Lotus Garden in partnership with Nevada Chinese Association.

These performances include Heavenly Deity dances, New Year instrumental music and folk songs and lion and lotus dances. The lotus dance in the Lotus Garden is a rich Spring Festival tradition and represents growth and full bloom. As the dancers present the lotus, it reflects a shared wish for balance, peace and harmony.

A standout moment Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m.: Lunar New Year performance by the Art Center for Autistic Children & Youth led by Lisa Chen. The presentation serves as an extension of the upcoming U.N. Chinese Spring Festival performance on Feb. 11. Chen received the World Charity Contribution Award from the U.N. in 2024 for her leadership in artistic education for autistic children.
