Three decades ago, B-Real, Sen Dog and DJ Muggs launched a cultural movement that would forever change hip-hop. Named after a street in their native Los Angeles, Cypress Hill (in the main photo by Eitan Miskevich) burst onto the music scene in 1991 with their self-titled debut album featuring underground hits including “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “The Phuncky Feel One.”

The group’s breakthrough came with 1993’s “Black Sunday,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200, earned three Grammy Award nominations and achieved triple-platinum status in the U.S.. Cypress Hill became the first rap group to have two albums simultaneously in the Billboard 200 Top 10 and the first Latino-American hip-hop group to achieve platinum and multiplatinum success.
Over the course of their celebrated career, Cypress Hill has released nine studio albums, including the critically acclaimed “Elephants on Acid” and “Back in Black.” In 2019, the group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, cementing their place among music’s most influential artists.
In 2024, Cypress Hill made pop culture history with a sold-out performance alongside The London Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall, bringing to life a collaboration famously predicted 30 years earlier on “The Simpsons.”
