Fantastic food, friends and live music late Saturday afternoon and early evening on Aug. 1 with my brother Charles Chareunsy and Robert Kachelriess + Mary Kachelriess at 328 Thai’s Summer Music Series featuring talented jazz saxophonist Justin T. Young.

Dinner was top-notch and flavorful as usual and no surprise as 328 Thai is part of the Weera Thai Restaurant Group that also includes the newly opened and excellent Kinzuu Izakaya on Rainbow and Warm Springs in the same parking lot as Weera Thai in Southwest Las Vegas.
Our dinner included seafood (scallops and shrimp), vegetables (with a crab, coconut and curry dip), steak, curries, noodles (pad Thai), duck, rice, desserts (in the main photo, and in-season mango and sticky rice among them) and more. The four of us shared every perfectly portioned dish, making the dinner, well, perfect. Click here for 328 Thai’s full menu.

I loved the cocktails Drunken Watermelon, 328 Botanist and Lychee Martini incorporating cilantro, dill, lemongrass, watermelon and lychee (not all at once!). They were flavorful twists on classic cocktails that were inventive and interesting.
And the charismatic and handsome Young’s jazz saxophone music – instrumental takes on familiar hits including Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way,” Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and Wham!’s “Careless Whisper” – provided a cool and sexy vibe – at the just-right volume – for dinner.

Also at 328 Thai on Saturday: Patranya Bhoolsuwan, Young’s wife Rachel Calderon Young (we go back decades in journalism), Young’s parents Jimi Young and Linda Young (thank you for introducing us, Justin), Naniees Phansawat, Chanikha Aommi and more.
Thanks to Charles and Patranya for the photos, and Happy Early Birthday, Mary!
328 Thai is located at 328 W. Sahara Ave., not to be confused with sister property Weera Thai at 3839 W. Sahara Ave. Stay tuned for the next musical headliner.
