Las Vegas’ iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign shone green on Thursday in recognition of Mental Health Action Day.
The ceremony also highlighted the vital work of Boys Town Nevada, an organization that directly served and impacted over 68,000 children in 2023.
“This is a call to action,” said Commissioner Justin Jones. “We need to prioritize mental health and support organizations like Boys Town Nevada, who provide hope and resources for families struggling with these challenges.”
Boys Town Nevada, established in 1991, offers a variety of programs to strengthen families and address children’s mental health needs. Their services include in-home support, outpatient clinics, care coordination, and the national crisis hotline.
“We’re proud to be part of this conversation,” said John Etzell, Boys Town Nevada’s Executive Director. “Our programs offer a lifeline for countless children and families.”
In 2023 alone, Boys Town Nevada’s impact included:
- Preventing family disruption: Over 900 children and families received in-home services to manage behavioral issues and build stronger relationships.
- Outpatient care: Hundreds of children received therapy for ADHD, emotional difficulties, and other challenges.
- Crisis intervention: Boys Town’s hotline answered calls from Nevada and prevented four suicides.
- Empowering parents: Hundreds of families learned valuable parenting skills through Common Sense Parenting® classes.
- Supporting schools: Boys Town partnered with over 80 schools, providing social-emotional learning programs and training for educators.
