After more than four years of acrobatics, live music and laughs on the Las Vegas Strip, Cirque du Soleil’s “Mad Apple” is taking its final bow.
Cirque du Soleil announced on Saturday, Aug. 15, that “Mad Apple” will close at New York-New York Hotel & Casino on Sept. 5, ending a run that has entertained more than 1.2 million guests since opening in May 2022.
The show brought a taste of New York City nightlife to Las Vegas, blending Cirque’s signature acrobatics with live music, dance, magic and something that was new territory for the company: standup comedy.
”Mad Apple” became the first Cirque du Soleil resident production to feature standup when it debuted on May 12, 2022. It was also the first production created through a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and The Works Entertainment Group.
“‘Mad Apple’ introduced standup comedy to a Cirque du Soleil resident show for the first time, and its blend of acrobatics and humor was the right combination to lead us out of the pandemic,” Cirque du Soleil CEO Mark Cornell said.
Cornell thanked the show’s cast, crew, creative team and audiences while saying the company is now focused on the “next chapter” of its Las Vegas lineup.
And while ‘Mad Apple’ is leaving the Strip, Cirque du Soleil isn’t going anywhere.
The company will continue operating four resident Las Vegas productions: “Mystere“ at Treasure Island, “O” at Bellagio, “Ka” at MGM Grand and “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay.
Cirque also said it is developing its next generation of shows for the Las Vegas Strip, though the company did not reveal what those productions could be or when they might debut.
The company said it is working with “Mad Apple” artists, technicians and staff on transition support, including possible opportunities with other Cirque productions around the world.
Tickets remain available for performances through Sept. 5. Anyone who purchased tickets for a performance scheduled after the closing date will be contacted by their point of purchase with information about refunds or exchanges.
