Happiness! Owner Ivy Ma’s China Mama is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Las Vegas.
I have dined at the OG location in Chinatown Las Vegas (which is now open again) and China Mama in Palace Station (I also attended the ribbon-cutting grand opening with lion dance).
I haven’t been to the second China Mama in Chinatown near Weera Thai or the location across from Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, and the latter is on my must-dine list as my brother Charles Chareunsy gives it rave reviews.
The new (and small) Henderson restaurant near home (hooray!) is in its soft-opening phase from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, and the official grand opening is this Thursday, June 11, emceed by my friend and Thai sister Patranya Bhoolsuwan.

I had lunch at China Mama Henderson on Friday, June 5, on the first day of its soft opening (dozens – one person told me about 80 people – were lined up before 11 a.m. in the 100-degree-plus heat), and the signature and longtime favorite dishes are as excellent as ever:
- crispy beef (a longtime customer favorite)
- beef chow fun, which was devoured by my lunch mate
- salt and pepper fish (which has a kick and is pictured in the main photo)
- Mama’s mapo tofu (a longtime favorite of my lunch mate)
- deep-fried jumbo shrimp in special sauce (this was yummy, to use the technical term)
And it was great chatting with Ma, who revealed a few secrets. Welcome to the Henderson neighborhood at 2550 St. Rose Parkway next to Carrot and Daikon, China Mama! Gan Bei! Cheers! Salud!
