My birthday month of March nearly wrapped up last weekend with the third consecutive Sunday of bottomless mimosas!

With my brother Charles Chareunsy at Tao Group Hospitality’s Lavo Italian Restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday, March 22: Lavo’s Endless Brunch (10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays).

Not to be confused with the iconic and seasonal Lavo Party Brunch, where ladies stand atop booths, gentlemen return to their dude-frat-bro mode party days, and nearby victims are sprayed with caramel, chocolate sauce and whip dream in the over-the-top sundae presentation.

Lavo’s Weekend Endless Brunch is AYCE off the menu, so it’s not a physical buffet like it’s new Sunday counterpart at Tao Asian Bistro at The Venetian. However, it is also $65 per person (this barely covers an entree at dinner at Lavo!).

A fruit salad | platter and croissants with raspberry filling kick off brunch. Along with limitless mimosas (including raspberry!) and red sangria, we ordered the following, incorrectly thinking that AYCE brunch servings would be smaller:

• Baby beets and classic Caesar salads. I disliked beets as a kid and really like them as an adult
• Tuna tartare in a creative display and salmon crudo, which I added to the Caesar salad.
• Black truffle pizza, pappardelle veal bolognese, Anson Mills polenta blueberry pancakes and funghi misti omelet. Definitely feeling mushrooms at this brunch, and all four entrees would have been easily shared among four people. I really liked the pizza and pancakes, and Charles devoured the veal bolognese.
• Duroc bacon and pork links. Delicious and classic side dishes for brunch.
• And items from the dessert cart. I mean when at Lavo?!

Everything was excellent, as it has been after all these years. Remember Lavo Nightclub upstairs when future Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix dressed up as a homeless man? We were there.

Lavo Weekend Endless Brunch takeaways:

• We, and other customers, were stunned that dishes on this AYCE menu are full (and large) orders! We ordered far too much food, and you aren’t allowed to take home leftovers.
• There are a lot of add-ons; can they be taken home (I’m guessing not)? I don’t like to waste food.
• Suggestion: Come hungry with at least a party of four.

I would happily return to Lavo’s Weekend Endless Brunch with a larger party (larger than two) for the hearty and delicious food, refreshing cocktails, excellent service by everyone and bright and airy ambiance on the patio and in the restaurant.

And we love three hours of free parking, with a Nevada driver license, conveniently located a few levels below Lavo. Buon apetito!
