The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City will celebrate its 35th anniversary with the grand opening of its Visitor Center at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. The $23 million project was made possible through a Conserve Nevada bond provided by the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The community is invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony, be among the first to explore the new facility and enjoy free museum admission, giveaways and family-friendly activities throughout the day. Train rides will also be available for purchase at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The 9,000-square-foot Visitor Center marks the museum’s first official visitor center in its 35-year history and includes nearly 3,800 square feet of exhibit space exploring Nevada’s railroad history and technology.
The new facility also features hands-on exhibits, a museum store, research archive and reading room, multipurpose space, projection map theater, new educational programming and a shaded passenger platform for weekend train rides.
Scheduled attendees include Dan Thielen, Administrator, Nevada Division of Museums and History; Stavros Anthony, Nevada Lieutenant Governor; Congresswoman Dina Titus, U.S. Representative for Nevada’s 1st Congressional District; Christopher MacMahon, Ph.D., Director of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City; Vinson Guthreau, Director, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources; and museum representatives and community members.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City, preserves and interprets Nevada’s railroad heritage through historic locomotives, exhibits, educational programming and excursion experiences that connect visitors with the people, industries and innovations that helped build The Silver State.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2026, the museum continues to inspire learning while serving as a cultural and educational resource for Southern Nevada. The Visitor Center at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City, is at 1000 Boulder City Parkway. The museum is open 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursdays-Mondays.
