Salon’s rock and roll branding parallels the high-level energy celebrated in Sin City
With a first location, at 6580 S Rainbow Blvd #101, Las Vegas, NV 89118, that opened in June of last year in the midst of the pandemic, a second Floyd’s 99 Cuts and Color location is set to debut in the Las Vegas Valley. The shop will open its doors on June 18, at 1321 W Sunset Rd STE 130, Henderson, NV 89014 next to Sunset Station Hotel and Casino.
Currently, the only two Floyd’s 99 Cuts and Color locations in Nevada are both franchised by local businessmen Justin and Joe Micatrotto. In 2014, the Micatrotto brothers introduced Las Vegas, and much of the southwest, to Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers before selling their interests in 2018. While the brothers had great success with restaurants, they wanted to take on a unique opportunity with a new brand.
“We love Vegas, our families are being raised here, this is our home. We loved bringing a brand to town when we moved here almost 20 years ago and are excited to share the Floyd’s culture with our friends and neighbors. Now with COVID-19 lifting, the time to grow is here!” said Justin Micatrotto. “We’ve been clients at Floyd’s for years when we would travel, so bringing the brand to Las Vegas seems like the right kind of challenge with the right kind of brand.”
The path from food service to salon is well-warn. The O’Brien Brothers, who own and operate concessions in baseball parks, realized that they needed to diversify their business when the 1996 MLB baseball strike grinded their operations to a halt. They had no way to continue to operate their business or pay their employees until the strike ended. As a way to combat future situations outside of their control, in 1999 they founded Floyd’s in Denver, which has since flourished to over 125 shops in 14 states with a mix of corporate-owned and franchises.
“My brothers and I were frustrated that we couldn’t all get the kind of haircut we each valued at the same place. I was finding it difficult to be able to get into a shop with my hectic schedule, Bill wanted a place that was enjoyable to hang out in and Paul was paying an outrageous amount to ensure a high-quality cut from an educated stylist. We saw where these needs intersected and developed Floyd’s. Plus, hair is always growing so we’d always have a steady stream of clients,” joked Rob O’Brien, co-founder for Floyd’s. “Our story is very similar to Justin’s and we’re happy to have him as a partner in Las Vegas as he expands his portfolio of Floyd’s 99 Cuts and Color.”
As a local businessman, Justin Micatrotto believes in the city and bringing Floyd’s to Las Vegas is a way he can help infuse more jobs into the market at a much-needed time, while also providing those in the valley with an amplified cut and color experience. On opening day, patrons at both locations will receive a coupon for a $5 haircut on their next visit and all proceeds will be donated to Southern Nevada Wolf Trap (SNWT) Early Learning Through the Arts, a program from The Smith Center Education and Outreach Department. SNWT places professional teaching artists in classroom residencies to partner with early childhood educators of children ages three to five years old. While walk-ins are always welcome, appointments are required during this fundraiser. Customers are invited to make a reservation online at any time.
Each Floyd’s is unique in that its custom wallpaper showcases iconic musicians throughout the decades, like Micatrotto’s favorite Phish, with special emphasis on local artists like Frank Sinatra. The 1600-square-foot shop also features 12 chair stations, black subway tile, stainless countertops and plasma televisions throughout.
Floyd’s offers a full range of services including haircuts, beard trims, color, waxing, deep conditioning treatments and styling as well as its own retail line of grooming products. Floyd’s is known for its complimentary shoulder massage after each service.
Floyd’s 99 Cuts and Color will be open weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations can be made at floyds99.com or by calling 702 430 9191.
