Chef-Driven and Architect-Designed Space Elevates District’s Dining Options
Azzurra Cucina Italiana opens Wednesday, February 1, 2023 on the South End of Henderson’s Water Street, bringing exceptional design and culinary talent to Downtown Henderson.
Concepted and owned by Henderson bon vivant and architect Windom Kimsey and wife, Annelisa Polk, the newly built space raises the bar for dining in the city.
“I love living on Water Street,” says Windom Kimsey, Owner of Azzurra Cucina Italiana. “There was just one thing missing—really good, authentic Italian food! And why not have it close to my house?”
The Food
Each dish at Azzurra is hand prepared by beloved local Chef Alessandra Madeira, with her husband Walter Ciccone managing front of house. The dynamic duo is thrilled to bring cherished dishes back to the table.
Roman-trained Chef Alessandra hails from kitchens in both New York and Las Vegas by way of Rio de Janeiro. The classically trained chef brings renowned recipes to the Azzurra kitchen including cold starters like Caesar and Caprese Salads, hot starters like Chef’s Famous Meatballs and Grilled Octopus, pastas like Penne Vodka and Orecchiette Pugliese, and mains like Lemon Chicken and Pan Seared Salmon. Each dish centers around quality ingredients and traditional preparation.
Azzurra’s cocktail menu offers something for everyone to enjoy. From the Perfect Negroni, Captain Walter – named for General Manager Walter Ciccone – to a Bailey’s Espresso Martini to start or end the night with.
The Space
Located on the south end of Water Street in Henderson, the restaurant sits directly next to Kimsey’s custom home on the block. Designed by Kimsey himself, the unexpected space includes natural materials, felt panel ceilings, geometric tiles, and pops of azure blue – a nod to the name. Guests enter through the attached outdoor patio, framed by olive trees, into the jewel-toned space. The marble-topped bar lends itself to the perfect glass of wine and Italian bite. The interior seats 30 guests, with an attached outdoor patio built to host an additional 40 guests.
“It’s intimate,” says Kimsey. “In a friendly way! Whether it’s a date night, work meeting, or something in between, we’re excited to host with the perfect Italian pairing.”
