Kicking off the summer festivities is the highly anticipated “Slide into Summer” event on Friday, May 24, at the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool. School is out, and it’s time to celebrate! Prepare for an awesome summer by taking a thrilling trip down the water slide, challenging yourself on the inflatable obstacle course, playing lawn games, and learning essential water safety tips – all for FREE!
On Wednesday, June 1, the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex hosts the “Splash into Safety” event. Start your summer off right by enjoying music, games, and family-friendly fun while learning about water safety. Admission is free for all safety fair participants.
Mark your calendars for the City’s Summer Pool Parties on Friday, June 7, Friday, July 19, and Friday, August 2, at the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool. These exciting events offer a chance to experience fun lights, an inflatable bounce house, lawn games, snacks, music, and more! Registration is just $5 and open to all ages from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
For the young inventors and builders, the Black Mountain Recreation Center hosts the “K’Nex Invention Camp” from Monday, June 10, to Friday, June 14. This five-day camp challenges students to invent and build with a vast collection of K’Nex parts, developing their mechanical engineering skills as they construct mini roller coasters, robots, machines, skyscrapers, bridges, or creations of their imagination. Don’t forget to bring a lunch if you sign up for the all-day clinic!
Looking for a robotics adventure? The “K’bots Robotic Camp” at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, from Monday, July 15, to Friday, July 19, allows participants to experience three different robotic divisions built with K’Nex parts. Construct and operate your own motorized and non-motorized K’bots, compete daily, and witness the crowning of champions on Friday. Bring a lunch if you sign up for the all-day clinic!
Finally, don’t miss the highly anticipated “Cardboard Regatta” on Saturday, July 27, at the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool. This unique event challenges amateur boat builders to design, build, and navigate boats made entirely of cardboard and duct tape. Registration is $5 per boat for individuals and groups, and you won’t want to miss the world-famous Rubber Duck race!
