For Erika Luren, her business is her brand. And for this NURSE PRACTITIONER turned anti-aging entrepreneur, beauty, from the inside out, is the focus of her life’s work.
Luren is the owner and founder of the Las Vegas medical spa, Parasol, Aesthetics Dermatology & Wellness. She also developed her own anti-aging skincare line called Parasol Dermaceuticals.
Living and working in a city that many beauty entrepreneurs call home, Luren has found a way to stand out to become everything from a brand ambassador to model, author and public speaker. So how does this single mother of two do it all? Luren shares some secrets that could also help other entrepreneurs spark new inspirations in their own career paths.
1. You once worked as a NICU nurse but now work as an anti-aging entrepreneur. What’s your best advice for someone considering switching careers?
There are three important concepts to ponder when switching careers. Find a career that entices your mind and soul, as you spend 2,000 hours+ on the job and that’s quite a chunk of your life. Second, go into a field where you can actually find employment, as a degree or skill set in a profession that’s not hiring, will not put dinner on the table and you need to eat! Third, do what you are! Recognize and utilize the natural born abilities that you have been gifted with. This will enable you to be inherently better at what you do.
2. What’s been the most challenging and rewarding part of launching your own brand?
The most rewarding part of launching my brand is being able to create the atmosphere and quality of care I dreamed of and seeing my patients thrive under the auspices of care at Parasol.
3. What advice would you give yourself 20 years ago if you had a chance to do so?
As a young adult, it would have been beneficial to have a greater belief in myself and what I could achieve, so that the fear of taking leaps was much less formidable. I had much greater knowledge and power than I ever realized.
4. You have really used sites like Instagram & Facebook to get the word out about your brand. What are your tips for other entrepreneurs regarding storytelling through social media?
Social media is an important part of current-day marketing. However, having an influence on these forums requires that you really know who you are, your brand, and what makes you different from the competition. These are your key pitch points to potential clients.
5. What’s next for your brand in 2023? What’s next for Erika Luren?
My family asks if I ever sleep…lol. I am constantly creating or refining business ideas or inventions, collaborating with others, and learning new facets of my current practice and those of foreign. So, my next step will integrate newer treatments, care modalities, and lateral expansion into medical markets. Additionally, I have some television show appearances in the works, so watch for me on your home screen sharing my passion with our community and nation!
