Oceanside’s Modern Japanese Fine-Dining Concept Continues to be a Culinary Game Changer and Rewards The Team
Matsu, the Japanese fine dining experience located just off South Coast Highway in Oceanside, California, is still in its infancy as an establishment but is already debuting some big changes for both guests and for employees.
The modern Japanese concept, created by executive chef-owner William Eick, is changing its menu offering from the option of a four-course tasting menu or an eight-course tasting menu to a singular and exciting 10-course tasting menu, starting at $155 to further elevate the dining experience.
The new 10-course menu will be effective on Thursday, June 2 and will include a variety of new creations such as (INPUT). “The new menu will also allow us to accommodate dietary restrictions, opening up a Matsu experience for a wider range of guests,” says chef William Eick.
The new menu includes an option to add on Japanese Wagyu for $55, making it an 11-course menu if this option is selected. Two desserts and the popular “Caviar and Cabbage” dish will now be included in the menu. The Vegan eight-course meal will also switch to a 10-course menu. The celebrated wine pairing will continue.
Overall, the 10-course omakase evokes a unique and increased playful experience which Chef Eick is revered. The bar will exclusively be available for walk-in only.
Additionally, Chef Eick is pleased to announce that he will be making all Matsu employees, from the GM to the dishwasher, salaried employees. “We truly believe that our staff deserves livable wages,” said Eick. “That has been a goal of ours from the start. We want to take care of the staff that does so well of taking care of us owners. Especially with the rising costs of living in San Diego – we want to make sure our staff doesn’t have to work 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet.”
To further sweeten this new change, gratuities will also go into an employee fund to increased benefits (medical, dental, 401K, vacation, quarterly bonuses, etc.
