RTC Kicks off National Bike Month and Encourages Community to #BikeThere with Month-Long Events
The month-long celebration kicked off today with Congresswoman Dina Titus’s press conference at the Container Park

RTC celebrates Bike Month with group rides, bike safety and maintenance events, and expansion of the RTC Bike Share system

In celebration of National Bike Month, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) encourages our community to get rolling on two wheels and #BikeThere! Throughout the month of May, the RTC will celebrate with Bicycle Transit Systems and Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition to host community bike rides, bike safety and maintenance events, and mark the expansion of the RTC Bike Share system.

“Cycling safety and education is a critical part of how the RTC is helping to build a stronger, more accessible Southern Nevada,” said M.J. Maynard, RTC chief executive officer. “As an advocate for sustainable mobility options, I encourage the community to participate in Bike Month to support bicycle safety and transportation equity for all road users.”

The month-long celebration kicked off today with Congresswoman Dina Titus’s press conference at the Container Park where she announced the expansion of RTC’s Bike Share program and future biking infrastructure investments to create safe roads for all users.

Bike Month is full of activities throughout May, with something for everyone, beginning with FREE 15-day Explorer passes on RTC Bike Share. Users can try out bike share for free until May 31 by using promo code BIKEMONTH22 at check-out via bikeshare.rtcsnv.com.

National Bike Month celebrations continue at First Friday in downtown Las Vegas May 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit the RTC Bike Share team’s booth during the event to get your free bike helmet.

RTC Bike Share will be hosting a community ride through downtown Las Vegas on Friday, May 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. Riders will meet at the Fremont Street and 7th Bike Share station and enjoy a short ride through local art and shops. The ride is limited to the first 20 active RTC Bike Share customers.

Bike to Work Week is May 16-20! RTC’s Club Ride program will reward one cyclist with a $50 Walmart gift card for going social. To enter, riders can take a picture riding a bike to work or college anytime during Bike Month and post it on social media tagging Club Ride and RTCSNV on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and using #BikeThere. Lastly, they have to report their bike commute to ClubRideLV.com. Winner will be announced on social media on May 31.

Join a bike safety and maintenance event in Henderson! To help the community stay safe and keep their bicycles in good riding condition all year long, RTC and the Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition (SNVBC) are hosting a Bike Safety and Maintenance event followed by a community ride from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 22, at Trek Bikes in Henderson. Space is limited to the first 25 registered participants.

Closing out the month, in partnership with the Southern Nevada Health District, the RTC will unveil a new RTC Bike Share station on Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Alta Drive and Martin Luther King Blvd. The station will feature a new type of docking station that combines the flexibility and streamlined infrastructure that cities and riders want.
