The Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation (NHLF) will present its inaugural Great Chef Run event from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on April 30 at Kellogg Zaher Park, in Las Vegas, to support the foundation’s scholarship fund.
The Great Chef Run will feature a scenic 5K race through the park at 7901 West Washington Avenue, followed by music, raffle prizes, food trucks, cooking demonstrations and tastings by local chefs. Title sponsor LivOn Labs will also be giving away free Vitamin C shots.
“At LivOn Labs, we couldn’t think of a better way to give back to our community than to support education efforts for our number one industry,” said John Carpenter, marketing director for LivOn Labs.
The 5K run/walk will have a culinary theme. Race participants will don chef’s hats, provided by ChefWorks, along with chef coat-themed T-shirts supplied by Cintas, to wear on the 5K course. All participants will also receive generous swag bags, thanks to Resorts World Las Vegas. There are still more sponsorships available for companies, organizations and donors of all sizes, added Donald Bowman, owner of Donald Bowman Consulting, and chair of the Great Chef Run committee for NHLF. Bowman is an avid runner and has raised funds for the foundation in the past through participation in running events.
“We’ve had an incredible response up to now, and have many more opportunities available,” Bowman noted. “The big thing too is for people to register for the run, which supports the growth of the industry but also the personal growth of individuals in Southern Nevada.”
Proceeds from the event benefit the NHLF scholarship fund, which was established to grant scholarships for education, certifications, and training programs to Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association (NHLA) members, or their family members, who seek to enter or advance within the hospitality industry in Nevada. The NHLA is an award-winning, nonprofit trade organization serving the hospitality industry since 1979. Its foundation’s goal is to be the leading provider of educational financial support for Nevada families in the hospitality industry.
“Our foundation is entirely volunteer-run,” added Shannon McCallum, vice president of hotel operations for Resorts World, and NHLF Chair. “All of these funds go directly to the grants and they will be available as early as those entering school this fall.”
You can take advantage of early-bird registration discounts today. Race-day registration will also be held from 6:30 a.m.-7:45 a.m. on April 30. The race starts at 8 a.m. McCallum also emphasized that the large Kellogg Zaher location allows for the perfect fun festival atmosphere, which can make the event a hit for years to come.
“We wanted to do this in an area where we could spread out and have food and drink and entertainment afterwards to make it a real special event,” she added. “We’re excited for our first event, and we think this will certainly become an annual event going forward.”
