Camp Cartwheel provides children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, along with their siblings, an outdoor medically supervised camp experience June 19 through June 22
The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NVCCF) and the Brett Torino Foundation are excited to host the 28th annual Camp Cartwheel Summer Camp at Torino Ranch for critically ill children and their siblings from June 19 to June 22.
Located amidst the beautiful scenery of Torino Ranch, Camp Cartwheel has been a source of joy for over 5,000 children since it began in 1996. The camp provides a wide array of activities, including swimming, singing, dancing, arts and crafts, canoeing, outdoor games, and rock wall climbing.
More than just a retreat, Camp Cartwheel offers critically ill children and their siblings, ages five to 17, the chance to build positive relationships, develop independence and self-esteem, and enjoy the pleasures of childhood in a safe and supportive environment.
Over 175 dedicated camp staff and volunteers work hard to help children overcome the physical, mental, and emotional challenges of childhood illness.
Jeff Gordon, President and CEO of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, stated, “Camp Cartwheel is a magical time for everyone involved. We are grateful to the Brett Torino Foundation for their unwavering support and for providing the beautiful Torino Ranch. Through their generosity and the support of our sponsors, we create lasting memories, encourage children to continue fighting their illnesses, and inspire hope for the future.”
Brett Torino, Founder of the Brett Torino Foundation, shared his appreciation, saying, “Thirty years ago, I discovered this beautiful location and transformed it into Torino Ranch. Hosting Camp Cartwheel every summer and providing a special safe haven for the kids is an honor. As we approach our 25th year, it’s heartening to see kids who have attended for years now returning as adult volunteers, even lifeguards. It’s a proud moment for all of us.”
Generous donations from local businesses, community leaders, and caring individuals ensure that children attending Camp Cartwheel can do so at no cost. Major sponsors for Camp Cartwheel include PENTA Building Group, Southwest Specialty Contractors, MacDonald Highlands, Hogs & Heifers Saloon, Olympia Companies Charitable Foundation, NPFMA (Nevada Professional Facility Managers Association), and the Brett Torino Foundation.
