Firefighters Lead Awareness Efforts with Special Event and Fundraising
The Henderson Fire Department (HFD) in conjunction with the Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association (HFBA) will join forces with Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada to raise awareness and support for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
In a powerful display of solidarity, HFD showcased childhood cancer awareness decals on all fire trucks, engines, and rescue vehicles. Additionally, both on-duty and off-duty firefighters wore special shirts to drive awareness and promote the cause.
The partnership culminates with HFD’s participation in Candlelighters’ Superhero 5K, set to take place on September 28th. A team of Henderson firefighters will fundraise and complete the fun run, inviting community members to participate and join the fight against childhood cancer.
Proceeds from the event and t-shirt sales will benefit Southern Nevada families facing pediatric cancer.
“As first responders, we understand the importance of community and support in times of crisis,” said HFD Chief, Shawn White. “This cause is important to us, and we’re honored to join forces with Candlelighters during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness and make sure children and families have the resources they need to navigate their most difficult times.”
Kimberly Kindig, CEO of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, added, “The Henderson Fire Department is more than just a team of firefighters; they’re protectors of our community. This partnership extends their commitment beyond the lifesaving work they do each day to bring hope, strength, and support to children and families facing childhood cancer.”
The Henderson Fire Department rolled out the decals and shirts at the end of August, just in time for the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on September 1st. The community is encouraged to join the movement by purchasing a special edition Henderson Fire t-shirt or signing up for the Superhero 5K.
Together, HFD, HFBA, and Candlelighters are lighting the way for families facing the challenges of childhood cancer. Join them this September to make a difference.
