Longtime Las Vegan is passionate about organization’s cause and aims to increase awareness and grow resources for its efforts
Karl Maisner, president of Las Vegas-based KMJ, an award-winning design studio, was recently voted to the board of the Children’s Advocacy Center Foundation (CACF). Founded 20 years ago, KMJ plans, designs and develops client websites, apps, and executes digital marketing and SEO campaigns for organizations of all sizes in a diverse range of industries.
Maisner worked with CACF for the past year to improve its website presence. He will continue to support the agency through this work, but will also take on more responsibilities to help raise awareness for the foundation. Maisner learned of CACF through his involvement with the Las Vegas Southwest Rotary Club. When a CACF representative visited a Rotary meeting, Maisner was struck by the group’s mission and work.
“It was pretty eye-opening,” he said. “I started to work with them and knew pretty quickly that I wanted to get more involved. It’s not the most comfortable subject, hearing about child abuse cases, but they are so valuable to our community. They deserve more recognition and more people need to know they exist.”
CACF’s mission is to “help and heal children and their families who have been traumatized by abuse and neglect.” In many cases, Maisner explains, families are broken up for the safety of the abuse victim. This can increase financial stress and make it harder for those involved to gain access to certain basic needs. CACF addresses these direct needs. In November 2020, the foundation launched its Community Closet and Food Pantry to provide food, clothing, hygiene products, and more, to victims of abuse. Through its Vegas Heals program, the CACF provides access to a continuum of mental health care for child abuse victims and their families.
Through its unique public/private partnership with Clark County, the foundation also continuously seeks out program service gaps to fill with evidence-based services, assesses community needs, and even fundraises for the Clark County-run Southern Nevada Children’s Advocacy Center (SNCAC). As Clark County’s central intake unit for the assessment, investigation, and treatment of suspected cases of abuse and neglect, the SNCAC is the first step in providing child victims and their families the help they need.
Maisner has lived in the Las Vegas Valley since 1990, and also supports the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Opportunity Village, and other local nonprofits.
“The Children’s Advocacy Center helped more than 1,800 children last year and I want to help them grow so they can do even more for Southern Nevada,” Maisner added. “I do love working with nonprofits and bettering the community that has given my small company so much. Community work a big part of what we do.”
