Broadway in the HOOD, in partnership with The LGBTQ+ Center of Southern Nevada, is thrilled to present the critically acclaimed, Broadway play, American Son, free and open to the public in honor of the 4th of July weekend 2021.
American Son, the riveting Broadway play adapted into a Netflix Television Event, is an explosive drama that examines our nation’s racial divide through the eyes of a separated couple struggling to get answers about the whereabouts of their son who may have been picked up by their local police. This nail-biting story takes place in real-time in the waiting room of a police station over the course of one evening where the couple’s contrasting backgrounds collide as they confront an unexpected crisis involving their son, the police, and an abandoned car. “American Son is not just a play – It’s A MOVEMENT!
Broadway in the HOOD has many artistic partnerships with schools and community organizations throughout the Las Vegas area. Offering opportunities for elementary, middle, and high schools to address the goals of the Southern Nevada Any Given Child initiative, which is focused on ensuring all K-12 students have access to quality arts experiences. Art experiences help students grow intellectually, emotionally, and creatively. These in-school performances are offered free of charge to schools to allow the inclusion of all students.
Performances for American Son will run one hour and fifteen minutes with a fifteen to twenty-minute talkback session following the performance.
