Las Vegas City Council Ratifies Seth Floyd As City’s Director Of Community Development

At today’s meeting, the Las Vegas City Council unanimously ratified Seth Floyd as the city’s director of Community Development. He was selected for the position by City Manager Jorge Cervantes. In this role, Floyd will oversee the city’s planning functions, including master planning, zoning, code enforcement and business licensing.

An adjunct professor at the UNLV Boyd School of Law, Floyd has been with the Las Vegas City Attorney’s Office since 2017, but is returning to his passion, community planning and development. Floyd began his career with the city of Las Vegas in 2005 in the Planning Department. Floyd worked in the Planning Department for two years, drafting staff reports, preparing parts of the Master Plan and negotiating a development agreement for what is now Skye Canyon. In 2007, he represented the city as a lobbyist on the city’s government affairs team during the 74th Session of the Nevada Legislature.

He returned to the city as a deputy city attorney in 2017 where he represented various departments, several boards and commissions in complex litigation matters. Prior to that, Floyd was in private practice, handling cases ranging from land use and licensing to collective bargaining.

Originally from North Carolina, Floyd has a degree in Public Policy and Urban Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a law degree from UNLV.
