The 2023 ¡Andale! 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Kellogg Zaher Sports Complex, 7901 West Washington Avenue, in Las Vegas, on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The race starts at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the event benefit the Nevada Latino Bar Association’s ¡Andale! 5K scholarship fund, which helps to cover Latino applicants’ LSAT (Law School Admission Test) preparation course costs and testing fees.
The LSAT is required to enter law school and is a huge factor in a student’s ability to get into a quality school and potentially receive scholarships.
Test preparation courses and fees typically cost about $1,700, according to ¡Andale! 5K Race Director, Melissa Corral. For many Latinos looking to go to law school, these fees are a barrier to taking the test.
To date, the 5K walk and run has raised about $290,000 and awarded 140 scholarships.
“The American Bar Association says the U.S. population is about 18.5 percent Hispanic. However, only 5 percent of all attorneys in the United States are Hispanic,” Corral said. “That’s why the Nevada Latino Bar Association has set out on this mission to try to diversify the law profession.”
Northern Nevadans and others interested can also sign up for the virtual race.
On race day, a group will meet and run together at Idlewild Park, 1900 Idlewild Drive, in Reno.
