Girls Athletic Leadership School Las Vegas (GALS LV) is an all-girls middle school serving grades 6th and 7th grade.
They provide a safe environment for adolescent girls to receive a college preparatory education that is tailored to their needs. At GALS, they empower girls to succeed academically, lead confidently, live boldly and thrive physically.
Recently, they partnered with the Lury Shocke Foundation, with weekly clinics, whose objective was to stop the youth unemployment cycle and inspire students to pursue the American dream through the dignity of work, leadership, successful careers and entrepreneurship in the construction trades. Their recent STEM project began as blueprints, prototypes, framing and then yesterday, their final larger scale design was put to the test against hurricane-level conditions. A few of the companies who participated and mentored the girls in the program included Roche Construction, SR Construction Inc., World Wide Safety and Southwest Specialties Pavers.
“They find sisterhood here. As some of the students have expressed. The girls support one another, and so it’s a place where they can be themselves. This is a school where it’s cool to get good grades. And work to prepare themselves for the future.” said Jennifer McCloskey, the founder of GALS.
GALS first opened last year, and aside from STEM it also teaches students leadership skills and guides them for future college and career choices. The school is currently open for enrollment for next year, and expanding to 8th grade in the 2021-2022 school year. GALS Las Vegas provides a whole-bodied education approach to develop girls physically, academically and social emotionally.
