Neighborhood Café by Day and Upscale Restaurant and Bar by Night Showcases the Home-Grown Talents of Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group
A neighborhood café by day and upscale restaurant and bar by night, 1228 Main, located in Downtown Las Vegas’ Arts District at 1228 S. Main St., is now open for breakfast and lunch, along with the bakery and coffee counter. Dinner will follow in late June.
1228 Main brings a San Francisco sensibility to downtown’s laid-back vibe with freshly baked artisanal breads and pastries, craft coffees, beautifully presented dishes, exceptional cocktails, and a fabulous wine collection – all set to an enviable playlist.
“1228 Main is built on a foundation of the new and enduring talents within Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group,” said David Robins, a Las Vegas local who is executive vice president of domestic operations and a 30-year partner of Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group. “It blends our passion for dining and the joy that is felt when everything harmoniously comes together– the food, the drinks, the music, the atmosphere, and, most importantly, who you share those experiences with.”
Behind the cuisine is Robins along with culinary director, Dustin Lewandowski and Alex Huizar, executive chef of 1228 Main. The breads and pastries are made fresh daily by a talented team of bakers led by Kamel Guechida, director of pastry development and operations for Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group; along with Sébastien Polycarpe, executive pastry chef and Brittany Simmons, lead baker for 1228 Main.
Breakfasts celebrate the bakery with artisanal pastries, breads and breakfasts made with breads. Current selections include crème brûlèe croissant with caramelized vanilla custard center; nuts and berries with Greek yogurt, Harry’s berries, Darjeeling tea granola, almonds and desert honey; the 1228 breakfast sando, made with crisp bacon, griddled eggs and Tillamook cheddar on house made focaccia bread; and Tunisian Shakshuka, a North African dish made with fried eggs, spiced red pepper stew and cilantro, served with toasted sourdough.
Lunch offerings include a Greek vegetable salad with red wine-oregano vinaigrette, fresh herbs and feta cheese; a pastrami and melty gruyere sandwich made with fermented cabbage slaw and charred Fresno aioli on seeded rye, served with seasoned fries; a smoked salmon latke served with dill crème fraiche, salted cucumbers and red onion; and the 1228 prime burger, topped with dijonaise, American cheese, kosher dill pickles and red onions, served on a brioche bun with fries.
1228’s freshly baked artisanal breads are paired with seasonal accompaniments that vary for breakfast and lunch. They include Hatch green chile cream cheese and avocado mousse; niçoise tapenade served with Spanish anchovy, goat cheese and fresh thyme; organic chicken foie mousse with port wine syrup and tart cherries; and sheep’s milk ricotta served with Tuscan olive oil and cracked black pepper.
The design of the 6,000-square-foot restaurant and bakery blends the original bones of the building with modern architecture, from bricks reflected in different materials to rich brown banquettes, communal tables and a slatted wood ceiling. The art, by celebrated local artist David Ryan, adds pops of color to the bar and dining room, plus Recycled Propaganda, the moniker for favorite local street artist Izaac Zevalking, is behind graffiti that spans an exposed surface of the walk-in cooler. Outdoor dining is available on either side of the main entrance.
An expansion to the building houses an ambitious bakery and catering business that will be equipped to facilitate orders throughout the Las Vegas Valley. 1228 Main seats up to 130 guests between the dining room, patio and bar.
