Year-round transit programs offer veterans reduced fares and medical transportation
To honor veterans and active military service members, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will continue its annual tradition of offering complimentary transit rides on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, to those who present their military or veteran’s identification card when boarding.
All routes will be operating on a regular weekday schedule.
“We thank all the brave men and women who have served our country and Southern Nevada,” said MJ Maynard, RTC CEO. “Our community is made stronger by their courageousness, and we hope to give back what we can on this day.”
Free rides are available on all RTC transit routes on Veterans Day and can be used to attend the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Las Vegas. One of the largest Veterans Day parades in the country, it takes place from 10 a.m. to noon along Fourth St. between Gass Ave. and Stewart Ave.
To recognize the contributions of veterans and active military members in Southern Nevada, the RTC provides many transportation programs designed to meet their needs including:
· Veterans Reduced Fare Program enables U.S. Armed Force veterans residing in Clark County to receive a 50% discount on regular transit fares. Veterans must obtain an RTC Veterans ID Card.
· Veterans Medical Transportation Network (VMTN) is an appointment-only, door-to-door transportation option for veterans and their dependents to and from medical appointments at no cost. Registration is required.
· Downtown & Veterans Medical Center Express (DVX) provides direct transit access from the RTC’s downtown Bonneville Transit Center to the front door of the Veterans Medical Center in North Las Vegas. Additional RTC transit routes access other federal medical facilities, such as the O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center and various Veterans Administration primary care clinics.
Additional information on all the programs for local veterans can be found on the Veterans Services web page.
