Island Sushi and Grill hosted its third annual Malassada Eating Contest to celebrate National Donut Day today.
Six contestants of all ages sweated it out for one-hundred and twenty seconds attempting to consume as many unified malassadas as possible.
In the end, local Las Vegan Andro Tuibeo dominated, finishing seven unfilled malassadas. His prize is free malssadas for a year (one dozen/month). All contestants also went home with a commemorative T-shirt.
National Donut Day is an annual celebration on the first Friday of June. Malassadas are a Portuguese donut style popular in Hawaii. Island Sushi & Grill offers fresh malassadas daily with four regular fillings and a monthly special flavor (this month is churro spice).
