The City of North Las Vegas Municipal Court’s Community Approach to Rehabilitation and Engagement (CARE) Court recently donated over 60 toys to the Toys for Tots program during their inaugural toy drive.
The new and unwrapped toys were collected December 1 – December 16th at North Las Vegas Municipal Court. Toys for Tots was selected due to the close partnership between the Court and the Veterans community that has resulted from the Veterans Treatment Program. Toys for Tots is run by the US Marine Corps Reserve and benefits local families.
“Showing support for Toys for Tots is just one of the many ways the CARE Court and Veterans Treatment Program aims to be a partner to the North Las Vegas community,” said Municipal Court Judge Chris Lee, who oversees the CARE Court. “Through our inaugural toy drive, we hope to bring smiles to our neighbors in need this holiday season and model for our clients the empathy and selflessness we teach in our programming.”
North Las Vegas Municipal Court opened the CARE Court, a second court division, last spring to work hand-in-hand with the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center to offer diversionary programs focused on the rehabilitation of those who have been accused of low-level offenses. The CARE Court includes a number of specialty court programs in one courtroom. It is the first of its kind therapeutic treatment court in North Las Vegas.
