LVMPD Provides 3,500 Complete Turkey Dinners to Kick Off the Holiday Season 2021

LVMPD Foundation, Metro, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nevada Medicaid and IKEA join together to assist families from under resourced communities during the holiday season

On Monday, November 22, 2021, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation kicked off the season of giving by providing 3,500 local families in need in Southern Nevada with a complete turkey dinner.

The LVMPD Foundation provided 300 turkey dinner baskets to each of the 10 Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department area commands to distribute at locations throughout the valley in their corresponding neighborhoods, and the Office of Community Engagement will distribute at New Hope Las Vegas Christian Fellowship.  Additionally, IKEA provided $14,000 worth of kitchen utensils, sparkling juice and storage items.

Also attending were community partners sponsoring the initiative including speakers LVMPD Lt. Christopher Gorrell, Olivia Smith from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Nevada Medicaid, and Tom Kovach, LVMPD Foundation Executive Director.

“It is a privilege to partner with LVMPD, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nevada and IKEA to provide families with a complete holiday meal to celebrate Thanksgiving again this year,” said Tom Kovach at a press conference where the food was being allocated.

“This event brings our community and law enforcement together to make our communities safer and uplift communities that are underserved throughout the Valley. It is a chance for people to see our officers provide a helping hand and allows us to demonstrate that LVMPD and our officers are here to serve and protect and be an integral part of making our community safer and stronger.

Given that so many people in Southern Nevada continue to be affected by the pandemic, the LVMPD Foundation is honored to fund and source the Police Department’s community engagement initiatives this Holiday Season.”

The turkey dinner basket distribution is part of the LVMPD Foundation’s Holiday Gift & Give campaign, where contributions help our officers give back to the communities they serve. In addition to the Turkey Dinner Baskets, officers will become Santa Cops and take children in need shopping for holiday gifts at the new Toys R Us at Macys at Fashion Show; SWAT Team will donate hundreds of bicycles to Superheroes for Sully for Chet Buchanan’s Toy Drive with HELP of Southern Nevada; and our Women of Metro will plan a safe shopping experience for children in care at Child Haven.
