The Chef Project is a nonprofit located in North Las Vegas that offers second chances and life skills training with its hands on approach to teaching a unique, certificate based culinary and pre-vocational training.
Today, in honor of World Kindness Day, the Leadership Las Vegas Class volunteered their time to learn about the cause and organizations in the community.
Founder, Chef Jeff Henderson, strives to help teens who have been in prison, foster care or struggle socially to live purposeful lives and by teaching them life skills through culinary training. Chef shares lessons beyond the kitchen walls, and partners with mentors, such as the Vegas Chamber leadership class to introduce them to other restaurants, talents, and have real world, positive experiences.
The students learn life skills that no one can ever take away. (Many of these kids have never left North Las Vegas, and its Chef Jeff’s continued mission to provide each student a safe program and to mold them with skills, values and work ethics to become the most hard-working employees).
Chef Jeff did time in federal prison in the 80s, where he learned how to cook and bake. When he got out, he worked at Caesars Palace and then eventually became the head chef of the Cafe at Bellagio. During that time, he has had his own TV show, been on Oprah, and written a few books. He decided to self-fund THE CHEF JEFF PROJECT so he could start right away – the need was too great to wait.
Chef Jeff Henderson is an award-winning chef, New York Times Best Selling Author, motivational speaker, and has appeared on numerous television shows including Oprah, Good Morning America, The Food Network, and many more.
Celebrity Chef Jeff Henderson and the students offer SECOND CHANCE catering and also host weekly pop-ups, “Beignets and Chicory Coffee Pop Up” (as well as Jambalaya) on Saturdays, 8 – 11am, with the young adults at their test kitchen at 2987 North Las Vegas Blvd, Suite 10, NLV 89030, to help off-set costs.
“The Chef Jeff Project RELAUNCH empowers the second-chance students of tomorrow. We believe food changes lives and the spirit of hospitality can be used to speak a language of healing and restoration for generations to come,” says Jeff Henderson.
Leadership Las Vegas is the premier executive development program in Southern Nevada. The program aims to enhance leadership skills, develop awareness of the community & build a network of leaders committed to the community’s shared concerns.
