In most cases, donation doesn’t need to be deferred due to COVID-19 vaccination
The Complete Association Management Company (CAMCO) plans to host a bloodmobile on Wednesday, June 23, to support the American Red Cross.
The blood drive is scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 4775 W. Teco Ave., Suite 140, in Southwest Las Vegas.
The Red Cross has a constant need for blood and platelet donations. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it said the assistance of blood drive hosts such as CAMCO and blood and platelet donors are needed now more than ever.
“While it certainly is good news COVID cases are on a downward trajectory, allowing for more visitors to our state, with that brings an increased need for blood donations. The drive we had scheduled in 2020 had to be canceled due to COVID protocols. In our ongoing effort to support the community, we are pleased to partner with the American Red Cross to host the blood drive,” said CAMCO CEO Joel Just.
The Red Cross is following FDA blood donation eligibility guidance for those who receive a COVID-19 vaccination. If you receive a vaccine, knowing the name of the manufacturer (Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson) is important in determining your eligibility. In most cases, there’s no donation deferral time if you receive a vaccine.
All blood, platelet and plasma donations are being tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Donations that test positive for COVID-19 antibodies could provide convalescent plasma for critically ill coronavirus patients.
Fully vaccinated individuals, including donors and Red Cross staff, no longer need to wear masks or socially distance. Unvaccinated individuals will continue to be required to wear masks and socially distance.
