Opening Day to welcome back baseball to Doolittle Field includes “flip the switch” ceremony for new scoreboards on Saturday, April 10 @ 10 a.m.
The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, a vehicle for corporate and philanthropic partners to support innovative programs that improve quality of life for all Las Vegas residents with a special focus on vulnerable populations, announces it has received a donation of $10,000 from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The donation funded new scoreboards at Doolittle Field, 805 W. Lake Mead Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89106.
The scoreboards will be turned on for the first time in a “flip-the-switch” ceremony led by Las Vegas city Councilman Cedric Crear, Ward 5, who will be joined by others from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Bolden Area Command, including Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, who will throw the first pitch on opening day, Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m.
“Opening day is always a great day, but it’s especially meaningful this year given that there was no little league season last year because of COVID-19,” said Councilman Crear. “With new scoreboards purchased with a generous donation from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, our kids have even more to look forward to this season. I am especially grateful to Alpha Phi Alpha and members of the Bolden Area Command, including Sheriff Lombardo, whose support means everything. We can’t wait to bring baseball back to Ward 5. Let’s play ball!”
“Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. This includes making sure kids throughout the community have an opportunity to grow, professionally and personally, and sports remain a great way for young people to come together and grow. We are excited that these new scoreboards will help ensure a great experience at Doolittle Field,” said Athar Haseebullah, President of Theta Pi Lambda, the local alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
