Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) will celebrate its 80th year of serving the Las Vegas Valley as it continues to grow and impact the community through a number of various social services since originally opening its doors on April 16, 1941.
In honor of the milestone, Catholic Charities will host a special community meal at its dining pavilion, gathering clients and staff to commemorate the occasion.
At 10 a.m. on April 16, CCSN staff members will host its ‘Feed Vegas’ community celebration and meal, treating clients from the surrounding area to a massive and specially prepared meal comprised of 600 pounds of beef brisket, 75 gallons of baked beans, 1,200 ears of corn on the cobb and for dessert, 1,200 servings of carrot cake.
“As our organization celebrates this significant milestone, I’m reminded that we are standing on the shoulders of giants, building on a momentum that has been many years in the making,” said Deacon Tom Roberts, CEO, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. “Our mission doesn’t stop and is constantly evolving. We know through this past year that we’ve developed to become extremely sustainable and remain qualified to assist those who rely on our services. We look forward to our next 80 years and beyond.”
A durable system consisting of several lines of charitable departments including family, food and nutrition, immigration and refugee, and homeless and housing services, Catholic Charities has grown immensely since its inception in 1941. The organization has developed alongside Southern Nevada’s population growth and annually assists tens of thousands of vulnerable members in the community. Sustainability of its campus is top of mind as the organization will soon undergo several campus renovations, including a massive solar energy project, keyless entry systems and the permanent return of a renovated indoor dining hall.
Also during its 80th year, Catholic Charities looks forward to seeing the return of its annual Heart of Hope fundraiser on October 8 where top donors in the community are invited to contribute substantial funds to enable the organization to continue its mission. Since its beginning Catholic Charities has relied on the generosity of the community and accepts donations large and small for the benefit of its clients.
