More than 70% of U.S. adults have experienced some form of trauma in their lifetime, according to the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
TIP is a Las Vegas-based nonprofit that dispatches well-trained citizen volunteers to emergency scenes for emotional and practical support to family members, bystanders or witnesses.
Elizabeth Jeser, CCMSA co-president, is a TIP volunteer. She says the work allows her to offer a different kind of care she couldn’t in her former career as an emergency room nurse.
“I went into healthcare to help people and to sit and hold hands with a patient and be with them was something I really couldn’t do in the past,” Jeser added.
“The TIP role allows me to be there with people, be compassionate, kind, and in service, on what is probably the worst day of someone’s life.”
Over the past 21 years, CCMSA has raised more than $3 million for Las Vegas nonprofits supporting healthcare needs in Southern Nevada.
