Lee Canyon: More Snow Expected! Peak Season Planning & Driving Tips

Interest in outdoor recreation like skiing and snowboarding is at an all-time high in Las Vegas. Over the last decade, Clark County’s population has increased by more than 400,000 residents.

Lee Canyon reminds Las Vegas residents and visitors that visitation to the Spring Mountains is at its peak during the holiday season, weekends, and after a snowstorm. This week, Lee Canyon expects another 2 inches of snow Monday night with 4 to 8 inches expected to fall midweek. To have the best winter recreation experience at Lee Canyon, people should:

1.  Arrive early. Lee Canyon’s lifts open at 9 a.m.; guests can park before that time. Lee Canyon road is one lane in each direction, so on peak days and after a snow storm, guests should allow at least 90 minutes for travel.

 2. Before driving, check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.nvroads.com. After a storm, Nevada Highway Patrol makes snow chain and/or 4-wheel drive vehicles mandatory. Cars without four-wheel drive with snow tires or chains will not be allowed to travel on roadways in the Spring Mountains.

3. Purchase daily lift passes online and in advance and have proof of purchase ready to show highway patrol. Season passholders can present their pass. Even when parking at public play areas like The Meadow is at capacity, Lee Canyon customers will be allowed to continue to the resort.

4. It is common for ski resorts near densely populated urban areas like Las Vegas to reach parking capacity. When that happens at Lee Canyon, guests can wait, and as skiers/boarders leave, parking attendants will allow others to enter and take the vacant spot.

“When Lee Canyon opened as a winter recreation area 60 years ago, the valley had less than 130,000 residents. Today, we serve as an outdoor escape for about 2.4 million people during all four seasons,; said Jim Seely. “During the holidays and after a snow storm, people must be prepared and take every measure to ensure a safe and happy experience at Lee Canyon.”

Lee Canyon marks its 60th anniversary in 2023. The resort has transformed over the decades, most recently with amenities like a downhill mountain bike park and Hillside Lodge, a 10,000 sq. ft. facility. According to resort officials, adding additional parking for resort customers is a top priority project.

Lee Canyon is open daily during the winter from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please

check www.leecanyonlv.com for details. Before traveling to Lee Canyon, guests should check road conditions at www.NVroads.com.
