There are many reasons to give to your favorite non-profit at the end of the year, to show gratitude for nonprofits, to become part of a greater solution, and to prepare for tax benefits.
The annual report, The State of Modern Philanthropy 2022, shows just how important this time of year is for nonprofit organizations:
- 30% of annual donation volume happens between Giving Tuesday and December 31
- 2x higher conversion rates occur on Giving Tuesday and New Year’s Eve compared to an average day
- Over $5,000 donations are most likely to come in during year-end campaigns compared to other times of the year

Animal Causes: Henderson’s Lion Habitat Ranch, a wildlife sanctuary with Nevada’s only “painting” giraffe and more than 25+ lions, emus, and more is open daily Thursday – Monday 10 – 2pm. Advocacy Causes: Save Red Rock, whose mission is to protect public lands and preserve the land around Red Rock Canyon (saveredrock.com), Las Vegas Pride, empowers the LGBT+ community of Southern Nevada to work together toward a culture of diversity and acceptance in the form of an annual Parade and Festival which offers monthly family bingo https://lasvegaspride.org/.
Project Marilyn’s goal is to period poverty in southern Nevada. Year to date, in 2022, Project Marilyn has helped distribute more than 1 million period products, including a kit intended to have enough supplies for an entire menstrual cycle filled with tampons, pads, panty liners and hygiene wipes, to members of the Southern Nevada Community. They continue to support local organizations such as LVMPD, Foundation for Recovery, Shine a Light, Communities in Schools, Boys and Girls Club, The Center and Olive Crest. www.projectmarilyn.com
The Cupcake Girls provides confidential support to those involved in the sex industry, as well as trauma-informed outreach, advocacy, holistic resources, and referral services to provide prevention and aftercare to those affected by sex trafficking (thecupcakegirls.org)
Gift of Music: Jazz Outreach Initiative’s annual “JOI of Giving” campaign sustains and grows its mission work as we serve the community and this truly American art form, jazz! Gift of Food: Serving Our Kids Foundation is dedicated to feeding and serving the needs of Clark County homeless, at-risk and food-insecure children by providing weekly, weekend meal bags to children who would otherwise go hungry when not in school. Gift of Fashion – The Las Vegas Fashion Council (LVFC) is proud to support our local fashion industry students. They present numerous opportunities for students to take part in design competitions, educational presentations, internships, and mentoring opportunities and apply for one of our annual scholarships distributed through the Public Education Foundation: https://thepef.academicworks.com/. GIVING IN THE COMMUNITY:
- Distill – a local bar and Remedy’s donated close to $100K to the Injured Police Officers Fund and also collected toys for children from Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation.
- Steelman Partners purchased a Christmas Tree to benefit Opportunity Village.
- Massage Envy and Marissa Hawkins gave more than 4,000 books to Title I CCSD schools.
- Mead Law Group donated $15,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Nevada.
- Pub 365 at Tuscany Suites hosted a unicorn beer fundraiser for Toys for Tots.
- TREE of Life dispensary donated more than $100K this year to Volunteers in Medicine, Ability Center of Southern Nevada, Armed Forces and Military Veterans and LGBTQ Center.
- Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) of Las Vegas presented Women Veterans of Nevada with a $9,450.59 donation.
- Google generously donated money to Serving Our Kids to cover costs to provide an incremental 800 children with a weekly, weekend meal bag during the school year to Southern Nevada-based education organizations.
- Lamar Advertising Company donated several billboards throughout the year to support charitable events and causes, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Project Marilyn.
- UR water donated pallets of water to Construction vs Cancer and the Strides walk for American Cancer Society and Salvation Army.
- Echo & Rig by Chef Sam Marvin, donated $5000 to Epicurean Charitable Foundation during the Pine Dining series.
- Cox Communications donated $5500 to Vegas PBS to help fund its PBS Kids Stem Initiative.
- Chinglish Wine Bar in Boca Park Fashion Village donated $2500 to Boys Town, $1000 to Rogich Middle School, $2500 to SHERO, $2300 to Temple Beth Sholom and $1800 to AIPAC. They also donated their furniture to Lion Habitat Ranch (a $4900 value).
- Bella Vita at The District hosted a luncheon for the veterans in the National Guard during the holidays.
- CCMSA – Clark County Medical Society Alliance volunteered more than 90 hours to Project Marilyn. Members packed 1,430 period kits and is planning a Spring Fundraiser Luncheon in March. ccmsalv@gmail.com
