With a notable decades-long career, the multi-platinum artist will showcase songs from his latest album, Meet the Moonlight, in this special two-night stop, performing the soulful harmonies and hypnotic rhythm of the album’s namesake single “Meet the Moonlight,” as well as celebrated songs like “One Step Ahead,” “Open Mind” and others. Johnson will be joined by Hawaiian singer-songwriter Paula Fuga for these performances. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit WynnLasVegas.com.
About Jack Johnson
Following up on sold out dates in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Brazil, American singer-songwriter, surfer and environmentalist, Jack Johnson will be bringing his beautifully-crafted tunes and soothing, island-inspired vocals to Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.
Johnsonʻs latest album, Meet the Moonlight released earlier this year, was produced by Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Perfume Genius, Jim James) and recorded both in Los Angeles (at Sound City and EastWest) and The Mango Tree (Johnson’s studio in Hawaiʻi). The creation process marks a major artistic milestone from past work, taking shape from a one-on-one collaboration with Mills (whose contributions included everything from fretless guitar to Moog synth to steel drums) and unveiled an intimate and highly experimental process that involved embedding Johnson’s elegantly stripped-back arrangements with enchanting sonic details. In the 10 new songs, Johnson explores the complexities of human nature and explores a whole spectrum of existential issues. Wrapped of course in laid-back rhythms, sometimes hypnotic vocals, sometimes soulful harmonies and Jack Johnson’s heartfelt optimism, as a gentle reminder to lead us to a better life. Meet the Moonlight is his eighth studio album and marks Johnson’s first release in five years.
Jack Johnson grew up surfing and playing guitar on the North Shore of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Johnson’s debut album ʻBrushfire Fairytalesʻ was released in 2001. A second solo album, ‘On and On’, was released in 2003. Two years later, his third solo release, ‘In Between Dreams’, reached #1 and sold over six million copies worldwide. It included the huge hits “Better Together” and “Good People” and the single “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing,” which gained Johnson a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Johnson also went on to provide the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Curious George which opened his music up to an even broader demographic. 2008’s ʻSleep Through The Static’ debuted at #1 on the US album chart. Each subsequent album has featured a #1 song on the Adult Album Alternative Chart, with Johnson holding the record for total #1’s. Since 2001, Johnson has released eight studio albums and two live albums that have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and his songs have been streamed over 6 billion times.
Johnson is also known for using his notoriety to promote environmental activism. His Brushfire Records label and touring crew have been leaders in the greening of the music industry and his All At Once social action network inspires fans to get involved in their local and global community.. Jack, with his wife Kim, founded the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation to support environmental education in Hawaiʻi’s schools and communities, as well as the Johnson Ohana Foundation to support environmental, art and music education worldwide.
Proceeds from these albums and tour profits, along with Johnson’s personal charitable activities, have resulted in over $37 million donated to charity since 2001. The Meet The Moonlight World Tour works closely with venues to promote sustainability including energy conservation, sourcing of local food and plastic-free initiatives, including reusable models and water refill stations.
