The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Las Vegas this weekend, where temperatures near The Strip may reach 112 degrees. Locals and visitors can cool off at Lee Canyon where the base area is at 8,510 feet above sea level, and temperatures are expected to be in the high 70s Friday through Sunday, with overnight lows in the upper 50s.
Cool mountain breezes that roll off of Lee Peak, 1,289 feet, will keep visitors cool while enjoying a host of activities like disc golf, hiking, scenic chairlift rides, archery, and skateboarding. Lee Canyon’s summer hours are Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. While the city faces extreme heat, Lee Canyon officials are thinking ahead to winter season and mapping out tactics to ensure guest safety.
Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to pick up 2020/21 season passes during the summer season to eliminate season pass pick-up lines that can make social distancing complicated come opening day.
“Due to COVID, we will not be hosting our traditional pre-season parties that were an opportunity to pick up passes early,” says Jim Seely, Lee Canyon’s director of marketing. “Picking up passes this summer means guests can head straight to the lift and up the mountain. This adds another layer of safety to the outdoor experience,” says Seely. Traditionally, Lee Canyon kicks off ski season on the first Friday of December.
“Being outdoors promotes good health, and Lee Canyon’s summer season has been a big success,” says Seely. “The community has abided by social distancing measures enacted to keep the public safe. We anticipate the same result this winter.” For information on summer activities and winter season pass options, visit www.leecanyonlv.com.
