The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod made history last night with its first ever “New Year Falling Star,” a countdown to midnight like no other with a leap from atop the iconic 1,149-foot-tall tower. Wearing a custom-made suit fully illuminated in lights, the brightly lit ‘human star’ marked the countdown in a controlled descent from The STRAT’s world-famous attraction, SkyJump Powered by MTN DEW.
Viewers from around the globe participated in a virtual celebration to watch the inaugural leap by Las Vegas local, Ryan Smith, who won the coveted jump in an Instagram contest. Friends and guests watched from below while others live streamed virtually around the world as confetti cannons erupted and a bottle of Dom Perignon popped upon Smith’s descent, ringing in the New Year, Vegas-style.
Plus, the SkyPod’s adrenaline-pumping attractions were open for the first time on New Year’s Eve, making it possible for people to ring in the New Year and take in fireworks displays while taking rides on Big Shot, Insanity and X-Scream.
