“The Nutcracker with a Latin Twist” Is a Reimagined Production Filled with the Classic Characters and Stories with New Latin-Infused Music and Dance Assembles
The dance of the sugar plum fairies is getting a new reimagined Latin twist. The nostalgic holiday production of The Nutcracker Ballet is coming to life by internationally renowned dancers and owners from Jordance Studios. The Nutcracker With A Latin Twist will debut this holiday season on December 18 and 19 at the West Las Vegas Library. In addition, the owners Paula and Jimi Jordan are also partnering with the Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDP) K-9 unit to raise funds for their K-9’s by donating a portion of the ticket sales to help meet the organization’s mission.
Jordance Studios has been producing the holiday event – The Nutcracker With A Latin Twist for the last three years, including a virtual production during the pandemic in 2020. The reimagined classic is a full-length ballet production featuring professional dancers trained in both ballet and salsa.
The production is led by the creator and artistic director Luz Morante and studio owners Paula and Jimi Jordan, who develop the salsa-infused choreography. Luz has 14 years of experience directing the Nutcracker Ballet and was the first artistic director in Las Vegas to feature a full-length production of The Nutcracker with an all-kids professional dance team.
Another twist to the production is the community partnership. Since releasing the production of The Nutcracker With A Latin Twist in 2018, owners Paula and Jimi Jordan have added a community partner to bring awareness, raise funds, and bring the community together through dance. This year’s organization, the CCSDP K-9 unit, was precisely the partnership they were looking for; as dog parents themselves, they fell in love with the idea to help first responders and their four-legged partners.
“With the production, we strive to show that classical ballet can have an interesting choreographic element with an ethnically diverse background.” ~Jimi Jordan, Jordance Studios Owner
