DISCOPUSSY, the new after-hours dance haven in Fremont East at 512 E. Fremont St., has announced a residency for house DJ and producer, VNSSA.
The rising So Cal DJ kicks off her four-show series on Friday, Aug. 27.
Fresh off a packed summer that included Lollapalooza, Day Trip Festival and HARD Summer, VNSSA elevates the dancefloor with her electrifying sets spanning all house and techno genres. With a lifelong passion for music, the Newport Beach, California native VNSSA got her start in music by drumming for a local indie rock band. From there, she learned to DJ and performed at local clubs at parties. In early 2018, her debut single “Do You Wanna Play” was released on House of Hustle Records. With over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, VNSSA has released multiple EPs and singles on labels such as Dirtybird, Higher Ground, Sweat It Out, Techne and many more, including a Beatport #1 single “Word,” with Walker & Royce, on Black Book Records/HotBoi.
VNNSA has had a meteoric rise in the house and techno space, with regular performances at well-known venues all over the country as well as being picked by Beatport as one of their NEXT artists. In addition to playing her own shows, she has performed with numerous acts such as Chris Lake, Claptone, Destructo, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin and many more. VNSSA’s residency at DISCOPUSSY includes performances with special guests on 8/27, 10/31, 11/26 and 12/18.
Conceptualized and designed by Corner Bar founder, Ryan Doherty, the centerpiece of DISCOPUSSY is a custom-built disco-octopus. The eight tentacled, articulated beast is made of more than 10,000 laser cut components illuminated by more than 5,000 individually addressable light emitting diodes. Controlled by state-of-the-art LED drivers, the sculptural display boasts refresh rates of well over 60 frames per second. Created by Keegan Olton in collaboration with Future TBD and Building 180, the tentacles present a colorful, visual light experience.
DISCOPUSSY is open from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday – Saturday, and from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday, with a capacity limited to seating only on tables that are separated by six feet, in addition to social distancing protocols on the dance.
