City of Henderson Announces Recovery Grant Program to Help Residents Impacted by COVID-19 Pay for Childcare, Utilities and Educational Internet

The City of Henderson today announced the opening of the Resident Recovery Grant program that will provide money to Henderson residents who need assistance with their childcare, utilities and broadband/internet payments. The program opens today. Those interested in participating can find one user-friendly application for the three grant categories online at cityofhenderson.com/covid19.

New applications will be accepted until November 30 or until funds expire.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our community, it is imperative that we seek effective ways to assist our neighbors who cannot pay for the basic services that allow them to return to work, keep their utility services and ensure their children do not fall behind in their education,” said City Manager Richard Derrick. “Through this recovery program, we believe thousands will get the help they need to successfully meet their financial challenges.”

The taxable grant is available to those whose place of residence is within Henderson boundaries. There is only one application for the three categories.

Applicants may be eligible for free grant money* to help pay for:

Utilities – Up to $1,000 per household. To qualify, applicant’s ability to pay for utilities has been impacted by COVID-19 and in jeopardy of losing essential utilities like water, sewer, energy, and gas.

Childcare – Each eligible household will receive $2,700. To qualify, applicant’s ability to pay for childcare has been impacted by COVID-19 and application must provide name, date of birth and school attending for each child.

Educational Internet Service – Up to $360 per household. To qualify, applicant’s ability to pay for K-12 educational internet service has been impacted by COVID-19.

Total funding for this residential program is $4.7 million, which is being provided through CARES Act Grant Funding. Each grant category will be funded based on resident application need.

Grant awards will be distributed to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. All unallocated funds will be returned to the federal government at the end of the 2020 calendar year.
