The City of Henderson continues to enhance the Water Street District in downtown Henderson, making it a more vibrant and active neighborhood. The City’s collective vision is for an authentic downtown core that is welcoming to everyone. The goal is for the Water Street District to become both a place to call home and a community gathering space by offering a collection of retail, professional services, family activities, arts and nightlife entertainment, employment centers, and educational opportunities.
Currently, the City is calling on artists to participate in a themed celebration of water in the Water Street District and making it a more beautiful place by covering 12 concrete benches along Army Street with artwork. Selected artists will be tasked with creating artwork(s) that play on each artist’s interpretation of water. Up to 12 artists or artist teams will be chosen, and each selected artist or team will design and paint a minimum of one bench with artwork to be completed over three days.
Submissions are due by Oct. 18.
The budget of $12,000 will be split among the 12 artists or artist teams selected.
Visual artists who work in any physical medium may participate. Artists must live and/or work in Clark County. In addition, the call is open to individual artists, teams of two or more artists and art magnet schools.
Artists will be determined by a selection committee made up of members of the Henderson Arts & Culture Council, the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, and representatives from the City of Henderson departments including Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Community Development & Services, and the Redevelopment Agency.
