Living Grace Homes Celebrates the Purchase of Its First Home with March 21st Ribbon-Cutting Event
Living Grace Homes is celebrating the purchase of the first home it opened in 2007 with a ribbon-cutting event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on March 21, 2024.
The event will be held at 1806 Somersby Way, in Henderson, the residence that effectively launched the local nonprofit 17 years ago with a mission to provide “a safe environment, programs and support for … homeless, pregnant and parenting young women.”
Living Grace Homes serves pregnant women between the ages of 14 and 24, 80% of whom are homeless with limited to no life or job skills.
Having leased the home on Somersby Way for many years, on February 1 the nonprofit officially became its new owner. Living Grace Homes manages another Henderson home, which was purchased using City of Henderson Neighborhood Preservation funds in 2013.
“In the 17 years we’ve operated, between the two houses, over 800 moms have found a safe haven,” said Living Grace Homes Executive Director, Kathleen Miller. “This purchase is a very big deal for us. … Having ownership gives us the ability to do the things we’d like to do to make it even more usable for the young ladies.”
The property underwent a renovation in 2019, spearheaded by former Mayor Debra March and the late Nat Hodgson, who headed the SNHBA (Southern Nevada Home Builders Association)’s HomeAid program, which builds and maintains housing to serve those experiencing homelessness. Hodgson will be honored at the event as well. The home purchase is also a key part of Living Grace Homes’ $2.5 million Safe and Sound campaign.
“The first step of the campaign was to secure the ownership of this property. The next is to procure a third property to serve women who are over 24 years old,” Miller added. “Currently we serve ages 14 to 24, but we get eight to 10 calls each week from women over that age who have no programs to assist them.”
