Poker icon and World Poker Tour great Gus Hansen confirmed his attendance at the Premier Meet-Up Game (MUG) at the WPT World Championship festival at Wynn Las Vegas.
“The World Poker Tour has always been a favorite of mine. WPT has had a huge impact on my poker career over the years,” said Gus Hansen, three-time WPT Champion. “I am very excited to join in the Premier MUG and get back on the grand WPT stage once again.”
The Premier MUG, hosted by WPT Ambassadors Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen, begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. Hansen will join fellow WPT legend Phil Ivey at the Wynn Poker Room to play $1-$3 and $2-$5 No Limit Hold’em.
Dubbed “The Great Dane” by WPT commentator Mike Sexton, Hansen was the first player to win three WPT open titles after taking down the Five Diamond World Poker Classic in 2002, the WPT L.A. Poker Classic in 2003, and the Caribbean Poker Adventure in 2004. Hansen also won the first WPT Bad Boys of Poker Invitational. His best live cash to date came when finished in second place for $1,714,800 at the WPT World Championship in 2008. In total, he lays claim to just over four million dollars in WPT career earnings.
“Gus is one of the original superstars of the World Poker Tour and holds a special place in WPT lore as the first ever WPT Champion,” stated Adam Pliska, WPT CEO. “We are honored to have him as a part of the opening activity of the WPT World Championship festival.”
Other notable participants in the MUG will be Todd Brunson, WPT Global Ambassador Ethan “Rampage” Yau, Jamie Kerstetter, Matt Savage, Tony Dunst, Vince Van Patten, Lynn Gilmartin, Angel Guillen, Caitlin Comeskey, Nikki Limo, Conrad Simpson, Ashley Sleeth, and Jaman Burton.
Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Following the conclusion of the MUG at 1:00 p.m., a drawing will occur awarding five WPT Prime Championship seats and one WPT World Championship seat. Players can collect raffle entries to the drawing by participating in three different live-action promotions. Terms & Conditions can be found here.
