Exclusive Las Vegas experience to bring Morris Day and The Time’s unforgettable blend of funk, pop and R&B to The STRAT Theater on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29
The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod and SPI Entertainment will host a limited engagement with Morris Day and The Time, with performances on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29.
The exclusive Las Vegas performances will coincide with the 39th anniversary of “Purple Rain” and Day’s scene-stealing breakout performance in the iconic film.
“Morris Day and The Time have an incredible sound and swagger that is all their own; and for lovers of funk, their performance on the Las Vegas Strip will deliver an unmatched opportunity to see them live,” said Adam Steck of SPI Entertainment. “After all, who didn’t get up and dance to Morris Day’s song and move, “The Bird?”
As the charismatic frontman of the iconic ’80s funk group, Day will bring his signature flare, fashion and funk to The STRAT. Day attended high school with Prince, one of the greatest performers in music history, and sang in his first band, Grand Central.
He was chosen by Prince to lead The Time, which he created as his alter-ego in music as a cool, streetwise funk band to contrast Prince and the Revolution’s soulful rhythm and blues sound. Day and The Time were cast in “Purple Rain,” which captured the exploding Minneapolis music scene at its peak. The group’s famed scenes in Prince’s film cemented their place in pop culture, as the film is revered as one of the best music movies ever.
Following the filming, Day burst into the public scene with the group’s self-titled 1981 album, “The Time,” which included hit songs “Get It Up,” “Cool” and “Girl.” The group went on to record three more albums, including the 1982 “What Time Is It?,” featuring the hits “777-9311,” “Wild And Loose,” “Walk” and “Gigolos Get Lonely Too”; and “Ice Cream Castle” in 1984, which included the hit “Jungle Love.”
After three albums, Day launched his solo career, releasing albums including “Color Of Success” in 1985, “Daydreaming” in 1987 and “Guaranteed” in 1992. Day recently released his fifth and final solo album, “Last Call,” in 2022, which debuted at No. 1 on iTunes’ Top 100 R&B chart.
“I’m looking forward to my Vegas takeover and bringing an exclusive Purple Legacy experience to The STRAT,” said Day. “It’s going to be a weekend that you won’t want to miss.”
Show times will be at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale.
Ticket prices start at $75 and can be purchased at http://tickets.thestrat.com/MorrisDay. Tickets for “The Cool Life VIP Experience,” including pre-show soundcheck experience; an autographed copy of Day’s book and “Las Call” CD; and photo with Day, will also be available starting at $500.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Morris Day and The Time to The STRAT Theater stage for what will be a fun, high-energy performance,” said Brad Goldberg, chief marketing officer of Golden Entertainment. “This will be an iconic weekend for Day fans, who will dance and sing along to the band’s smooth dance moves, vocals and showmanship.”
Accommodating up to 900 guests, The STRAT Theater includes a party pit directly in front of the stage, making it one of the most intimate showrooms in Las Vegas. Prior to Morris Day and The Time’s shows, the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar; epic rock band, Cheap Trick; and GRAMMY award winner, Rick Springfield, have most recently taken the iconic stage.
