Henderson volunteers logged over 66,000 hours across various City departments and events
The City of Henderson is celebrating its more than 2,200 volunteers during National Volunteer Week from April 16 through April 22.
Through the City’s Volunteer Connection program, residents can give back to their community by giving their time and experience to support various City departments, including Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation and more.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have a community full of amazing residents who contribute so much to the quality of life in our City,” said Henderson City Manager and Chief Executive Officer Richard Derrick. “Our volunteer program is a point of pride, and the involvement from our residents helps make Henderson a place to call home.”
In 2022, the City of Henderson had 2,288 community members volunteered nearly 66,000 hours, helping to save the City $1.7 million in some of the following areas:
Police Department
- 17,468 volunteer hours
- Volunteers assisted in writing 643 handicap parking citations, helped coordinate two Every 15 Minutes reenactments, Shop with a Cop and other community outreach events
Animal Care and Control
- 19,407 volunteer hours
- Volunteers assisted in 2,622 adoptions, animal enrichment activities, trainings and shelter upkeep
Parks and Recreation
- 28,319 volunteer hours
- Volunteers helped coach and mentor more than 2,000 kids in youth sports, removed 2,000 pounds of trash during clean-up events, served over 73,000 meals to seniors and knitted, crocheted and quilted 2,500 items for kids, veterans and others in need
Fire Department
- 500 volunteer hours
- Volunteers helped with citizen trainings for programs such as CPR, AED, and Emergency Bleeding Control with 250 attendees overall
