Trudging along the barren desert on the US route 93 between Vegas and Phoenix isn’t something that inspires many roadtrip plans. However, for those traveling at a leisurely pace, and willing to take the necessary detours, this trip can make for a scenic ride through some of the most remarkable natural and historic sites that this country has to offer, especially when traveling on a motorcycle.

The roughly 260 miles between Vegas and Phoenix has lots to offer for tourists and roadtrip enthusiasts alike, with some of the sites and towns on the way being of great historical significance, with the potential to create memorable experiences.

If you’re planning a roadtrip on your motorcycle between these two lovely cities, here are some things you should know before hitting the road.

  1. Be Prepared For The Heat

With the highway connecting these two cities going entirely through the Mojave Desert, travelers must be prepared for high daytime temperatures, especially when traveling on a motorcycle.

There are also relatively fewer rest stops, or places to get some shade throughout this road, meaning you will have to pack the necessary refreshments and plan for regular stops to rest and keep yourself hydrated.

Exiting the highway at regular intervals to check out the various gems that dot this route is a great way to beat the heat, apart from staying motivated to continue on the journey.

  1. Be Wary of Traffic

Despite being a highway, US Route 93 is one of the most congested roads in the country, with heavy truck traffic, and with most segments having only two lanes. This means the average speeds on the highway tend to be lower, and the ride overall tends to be frustrating, requiring time to pass through slower-moving vehicles.

There are substantial improvements being done on this highway, all of which should reduce bottlenecks and make traffic flow smoother, but for the time being, drivers tend not to relish their experience on this stretch.

  1. Stay Alert & Stay Safe

For the reasons discussed above, US 93 has long been ranked as one of the most dangerous highways in the country.

Between 2010 to 2016, 90 fatalities were reported on this highway between the Las Vegas and Phoenix stretch alone, and the risks are further compounded by high emergency medical service wait times, reaching as high as 21 minutes in certain regions.

According to Phoenixed-based motorcycle accident lawyers, Gallagher & Kennedy, the risk of fatalities are far higher for those on motorcycles, given the high speeds, and the lack of substantial protections, especially in comparison to four-wheelers.

  1. Checkout The Incredible Sights

Even though this road isn’t filled with roses and rainbows, there certainly are some incredible sights worth seeing. Dotted across this stretch between Las Vegas and Phoenix, with minor detours are the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and Lake Havasu, among other attractions.

Plan your trip in such a way that you get to explore all of these locations, not only to get a much-needed respite from the arduous travel, but also to feel inspired by some of America’s greatest hidden treasures. A quick visit to the above-mentioned attractions is all you need to make this trip unforgettable, despite the other challenges that might come your way.

Final Words

Going on a roadtrip on your motorcycle is always a risk, but the experience is definitely worth it, especially on highway 93, which is filled with various attractions and places to see. With the right preparation and planning, the travel from Las Vegas to Phoenix can be very rewarding.
