Green Our Planet, in partnership with Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, Bank of Nevada, Clark County School District, United Way of Southern Nevada and Sprouts, hosted the nation’s largest student-run farmers market at the Clark County Government Center.
Over 300 student farmers from 30 Clark County School District students participated in the event selling produce and crafts with all proceeds returning to the schools to amplify and preserve the schools’ garden programs.
“This learning opportunity gives the student farmers an interactive experience on how produce grows, environmental conservation and customer interactions,” said Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet. “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the turnout of this farmers market. We would like to thank all our community partners for their assistance in making this event a success.”
Founded in 2013, Green Our Planet runs the largest school garden program in the United States working with more than 500 schools and impacting over 200,000 students. The garden program provides the ability for students to learn about nutrition, science, conservation and math through hands-on experience.
“I want to congratulate all the students who participated in the Green Our Planet Giant Student Farmers Market and worked hard to run their very own business,” said Green Our Planet Champion Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick. “I’m so proud of the Farmpreneurs for applying their knowledge in leadership, financial literacy, and business skills to produce a successful farmers market.”
