Jewish Nevada Hosts Food Drive for Thanksgiving Holiday

Jewish Nevada, a non-profit organization that serves as the representative organization for the more than 70,000 Jews in Nevada, is collecting food to be given to those in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Non-perishable food donations will be accepted now until Nov. 18 at the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada at 8689 W. Sahara Ave., #180, Las Vegas.

The nonprofit is taking both kosher and non-kosher foods to be distributed to families through two different organizations. The kosher food will be given to Aishel Avraham, a volunteer-based organization that provides meals to Jewish families in need, many of whom are kosher clients. The remainder of the collection will go towards creating food baskets for families through the Jewish Family Services Agency (JFSA), a non-profit that provides an array of services for local families, both Jewish and non, like counseling, adoption assistance, senior programs and food pantry services.

“Thanksgiving is a special holiday, and this season is all about giving back to the community, more now than ever before,” said Stefanie Tuzman, President and CEO of Jewish Nevada. “Jewish Nevada’s mission involves helping others, and we are pleased to assist Las Vegans as they prepare traditional Thanksgiving meals for their families.”

Jewish Nevada is “adopting” 10 families through the JFSA, possibly more depending on the amount of food that is donated, to receive food baskets and Smith’s gift cards for turkey and other perishable items for Thanksgiving. Volunteers from Jewish Nevada will put the baskets together and deliver them to the homes that the JFSA provides.
